Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has commenced plans for an extensive grassroots mobilisation campaign across the state in support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The mobilisation strategy will cover the state’s 18 local government areas, wards and polling units as the All Progressives Congress (APC) works towards its target of securing 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in Edo State.
The Director of Media of the Edo State Campaign Council, John Mayaki, disclosed this while responding to criticism from Rev. Olu Martins over the feasibility of the 2.5 million-vote target.
Martins had questioned the basis for setting a specific numerical target and criticised Okpebholo for publicly attaching a figure to the votes he plans to mobilise for the President.
Okpebholo has repeatedly maintained that the state can deliver 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in 2027.
In May, the governor described the target as achievable, while in June he linked the projection to projects and programmes being implemented by his administration.
On September 4, Okpebholo also urged the newly inaugurated chairmen of the 18 local government areas to work towards achieving the target.
Mayaki said the next phase of the mobilisation would involve a multi-level structure extending from the state and local government levels to wards and individual polling units.
“There are arrangements for unit-by-unit and ward-by-ward mobilisation. There are several layers of organisation on the ground,” he said.
He added that the party would “organise, mobilise and work at a scale proportionate to that ambition.”
Mayaki also rejected the suggestion that Okpebholo was the only governor or political leader to announce a specific numerical target for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
The mobilisation is expected to intensify as the APC builds its grassroots structures across Edo ahead of the presidential contest.
