In Kafanchan, an unsettling situation unfolded with the
emergence of a mysterious disease on

Wednesday night, prompting concern among
the residents. Mr. Yunana Barde, the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area
in Kaduna State, stepped forward to address the public and appeal for calm. He
assured everyone that authorities were taking immediate action to contain any
potential spread of the disease.

Speaking at the General Hospital in Kafanchan on Thursday,
Barde emphasized that there was no reason to panic. He praised the hospital for
swiftly establishing a temporary isolation center to handle suspected cases of
the disease. This measure aimed to prevent further transmission and ensure that
appropriate care was provided.

Meanwhile, Dr. Isaac Nathaniel, the Medical Director of the
General Hospital, provided an update on the situation. Ten individuals who
exhibited symptoms of the disease were undergoing resuscitative measures and
were admitted to the hospital for observation and treatment. Samples from these
patients had been collected for investigation, to identify the nature of the
illness.

The affected individuals were mostly children aged three to
thirteen, and their symptoms included sore throat, headache, fever, difficulty
in swallowing, and breathing issues, among others. To better understand the
outbreak, the state epidemiologist and a team were en route from Kaduna to
assess the situation and its potential spread.

Addressing rumors of alleged deaths linked to the ailment,
Dr. Nathaniel clarified that the hospital had not received any deceased
individuals, dismissing such claims as hearsay at that moment.

As a precautionary measure, authorities decided to
temporarily close several primary and secondary schools in Kafanchan pending
the completion of the medical investigation.

While the situation was undoubtedly concerning, both local
and state authorities were collaborating diligently to manage and contain the
outbreak. Mr. Barde and Dr. Nathaniel urged the residents of Kafanchan to
remain vigilant and assured them that all necessary measures were being
implemented to safeguard public health.
