An Air Peace aircraft operating Flight P47190 from Lagos to Port Harcourt on Sunday morning experienced a runway excursion shortly after landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport.
The airline confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, assuring the public that all passengers and crew disembarked safely and without injury.
“Air Peace confirms that its Flight P47190, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt this morning, had a runway excursion after landing safely at the Port Harcourt International Airport. The aircraft veered slightly off the runway without any damage,” the statement read.
Passengers on board remained calm during the incident and were evacuated in an orderly manner by the cabin crew. No injuries or significant damage to the aircraft were reported.
Air Peace reiterated its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of passengers, emphasizing adherence to international aviation safety standards.
“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety in all our operations,” the airline added.
Sunday’s incident is the second runway-related event involving Air Peace in recent weeks. On May 11, another aircraft belonging to the airline was grounded at the Asaba International Airport in Delta State after colliding with a large antelope during taxiing. The collision, which destroyed the animal and forced the aircraft out of service, led to flight delays.
Responding to that earlier incident, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), noted via his X (formerly Twitter) account that while some occurrences—such as wildlife hazards—are beyond airline control, they do not exempt carriers from ensuring full responsibility and care for passengers during disruptions.
The NCAA has not yet issued an official statement on Sunday’s Port Harcourt runway incident, though aviation authorities are expected to review the occurrence as part of routine safety procedures.
