President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday assured Nigerians that the country’s most difficult economic challenges are now behind it, declaring that the reforms initiated by his administration are beginning to yield tangible results.

In his nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day anniversary, the president expressed optimism about the country’s economic trajectory and pledged continued commitment to steering the nation toward stability and prosperity.

“Our administration is setting things right. I am pleased to report that we have finally turned the corner. The worst is over, I say,” Tinubu declared.

Acknowledging the resilience and patience of Nigerians amid tough economic decisions, Tinubu said the sacrifices made over the past two years are paving the way for lasting relief and growth.

“I salute Nigerians for their endurance, support, and understanding. Yesterday’s pains are giving way to relief. I will continue to work for you and justify the confidence you reposed in me to steer the ship of our nation to a safe harbour,” he said.

Highlighting the progress achieved so far, Tinubu pointed to significant improvements in key economic indicators. Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.23% in the second quarter of 2025, its fastest pace in four years, surpassing the International Monetary Fund’s projection of 3.4%.

Inflation, which has been a major concern for households and businesses alike, also dropped to 20.12% in August 2025, the lowest level in three years. Tinubu attributed this development to strategic fiscal and monetary policies aimed at stabilizing prices, stimulating production, and strengthening the agricultural sector to boost food security and reduce costs.

“Under our leadership, our economy is recovering fast, and the reforms we started over two years ago are delivering tangible results,” Tinubu said. “In the last two years of our administration, we have achieved 12 remarkable economic milestones as a result of the implementation of our sound fiscal and monetary policies.”

The president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and long-term development, noting that the journey to economic transformation requires sustained collaboration between government, the private sector, and citizens.

As Nigeria celebrates 65 years of independence, Tinubu urged citizens to remain hopeful and united, emphasizing that the country is on course to emerge stronger from its economic challenges.

“Our best days are ahead. Together, we are building a Nigeria that will fulfill the promise of prosperity and greatness envisioned by our founding fathers,” he said.

Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and has traditionally marked the anniversary with national broadcasts, cultural events, and patriotic celebrations. This year’s milestone, themed “All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” underscores the shared responsibility of nation-building as the country continues its journey toward economic renewal and national progress.
