South African pop sensation Tyla has emerged winner of the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards, defeating Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr.
Tyla secured the honour with her hit single Push 2 Start, edging out Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
The award category, created to amplify African music on the global stage, once again showcased Nigeria’s strong influence, with three Nigerian artistes making the final shortlist.
With the latest victory, Tyla becomes a two-time winner in the category. She first made history in 2024 when she won the inaugural Best African Music Performance award with Water.
Her latest triumph further cements her rising global profile and highlights South Africa’s growing presence in international music awards, even as Nigerian acts continue to dominate nominations.
