Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Rema has been confirmed as one of the headline performers for the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, joining an international lineup of music superstars set to perform in the United States.
The announcement was made by FIFA through an official Instagram post unveiling entertainers selected for the tournament’s opening celebrations.
According to FIFA, the event will feature a diverse cast of globally recognized artists, including Future, Katy Perry, Anitta, Tyla, and LISA.
FIFA described the ceremony, scheduled to hold in Los Angeles, as a celebration of the multicultural identity and global appeal of the 2026 World Cup.
“Global superstars Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema, and Tyla will headline the celebrations in Los Angeles, with additional world-renowned artists still to be announced,” FIFA stated.
The football governing body added that the lineup reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and highlights music’s ability to unite people from different backgrounds during one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
The performance marks another milestone in Rema’s rapidly growing international career, further cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s most successful global music exports.
The announcement comes days after Colombian pop star Shakira unveiled “Dai Dai” as the official theme song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026, with the opening match set to take place at Estadio Azteca.
