The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited communities in Oyo State following the deadly terrorist attack and abduction incident that occurred in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Friday, May 15, 2026.
During the visit, the police chief expressed deep concern over the tragic incident and sympathised with families who lost loved ones in the attack. He described the assault as cruel and unacceptable, assuring residents that security agencies would leave no stone unturned in restoring peace and stability to the affected communities.
As part of efforts to strengthen ongoing operations, the IGP ordered the deployment of additional tactical units and intelligence assets to the area and nearby forests where the attackers are believed to be operating.
Disu also met with the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, alongside other security stakeholders, to review operational briefings on rescue efforts and security measures already put in place across the affected communities.
He assured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified coordinated search-and-rescue missions, intelligence gathering, and tactical operations aimed at ensuring the safe return of all abducted victims and the arrest of those behind the attack.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the protection of schools, communities, and all citizens across the country,” the IGP stated during the visit.
The police chief was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, due to the strategic proximity of the Oriire axis to border communities in Kwara State. Also on the visit was the Commissioner of Police, Schools Protection Squad, Abayomi Shogunle, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance school safety and improve coordinated emergency response measures in vulnerable communities.
