Award-winning Afrobeats singer David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on entertainers and influential public figures to speak out more forcefully against what he described as growing injustice in Nigeria.
The music star made the remarks in a post on X, expressing concern over the country’s current state and acknowledging that celebrities have not done enough to address issues affecting ordinary Nigerians.
According to Davido, entertainers, including himself, must take greater responsibility by using their platforms to advocate for positive change.
“I can’t lie, we entertainers… we dey f*** up, I won’t lie, including me. We need to speak up. It’s too much injustice going on. Our country don go,” he wrote, accompanied by a broken-heart emoji and the Nigerian flag.
The post quickly attracted widespread reactions from social media users, with some applauding his comments while others questioned his sincerity and political neutrality.
Responding to one critic, Davido denied belonging to any political faction, insisting that he has consistently voiced his concerns about governance and national issues.
“I no dey part of any city boy group,” the singer stated.
He further recalled facing criticism after speaking about Nigeria’s challenges during an interview with American media outlets, noting that many Nigerians condemned him for his remarks at the time.
“When I called out the government on American media, you guys rained curses on me,” he said.
Davido also addressed questions about his relationship with an individual identified as ST, explaining that their friendship has never prevented him from expressing concerns directly.
“I’ve been friends with ST for years and that’s where it stops. I call and complain to him all the time, even in person,” he added.
The singer’s comments have continued to fuel debate online, with many Nigerians discussing whether entertainers and celebrities should play a more active role in addressing political and social issues in the country.
