In a resolute and daring operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) reported a significant victory over terrorists through a series of precise air strikes across multiple theaters. This announcement came through a statement released by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF, in Abuja.
The air component of Operations Hadin Kai and Hadarin Daji executed meticulously planned air interdiction missions on Saturday in a bid to eliminate the terrorist threat. The focus of these operations was a recently identified terrorist hideout near the Lake Chad region in Borno, known as Bukar Meram. The move to strike the terrorists became imperative after it was established that these militants had relocated from Suwa to the Bukar Meram area. Intelligence suggested that this relocation was intended to facilitate possible attacks on ground troops and innocent civilians.
The NAF’s aerial strikes in Bukar Meram yielded favorable results, with multiple terrorists neutralized in the process. Additionally, more than 40 motorcycles and six gun trucks utilized by the militants were destroyed. The effectiveness of these operations showcased the precision and effectiveness of the NAF’s air power in dealing with the persistent threat of terrorism.
In another incident, the Air Component of Operation Haradin Daji engaged terrorists on October 11 near the Sangeko axis of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara. The militants, who were part of a convoy comprising approximately 70 motorcycles on the road from Kabaro to Sangeko, were met with decisive force. Several of the terrorists were neutralized, and their motorcycles were destroyed, while others sustained injuries.
Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, expressed his admiration and gratitude for the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by the Air Components involved in these operations. He emphasized the importance of their efforts in supporting ground troops, saying, “Your efforts and support to the ground troops are commendable. Stay focused and do not be complacent as we must continue to give our citizens the confidence they deserve to thrive.”
These recent victories underscore the Nigerian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security and defeating the menace of terrorism.
