Prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against the growing influence of sycophants within his administration, warning that they are distorting the true state of affairs in the country.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Garba stated bluntly that the president is being fed false narratives by close allies who are shielding him from the reality of Nigerians’ suffering and the internal decay within the ruling party.
“There is a lot of sycophancy around the president. People are telling him that things are okay – things are not okay,” Garba said.
His comments come amid mounting political tension and the recent resignation of former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. Garba pointed to the emergence of a formidable opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a looming threat that must not be ignored.
“This ADC coalition is like vultures waiting to feast on the APC’s vulnerabilities,” he warned. “It’s a wake-up call for the party and the presidency. We need leadership that listens, accepts criticism, and understands that denial will only accelerate our decline.”
Garba also reflected on the diminishing political capital of the APC in the North following the exit and eventual death of former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2025. He noted that Buhari’s influence, once strong enough to consistently secure 12 million votes, had already waned by the 2023 elections.
“In 2023, we managed just 5.5 million votes in the North. The so-called 12 million bloc votes vanished. We only succeeded because of strategic party structures,” he explained. “Now that Buhari is no longer here, we must urgently re-strategize if we want to survive politically.”
Garba’s remarks have sparked renewed calls within the APC for introspection and a shift away from what critics say is an over-reliance on legacy and loyalty, rather than performance and accountability.
