Amid rumors of his health condition, Governor Akeredolu of
Ondo State found support from his wife,
Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, who shared a
photograph of him in a medical facility. The photo was posted across her social
media accounts on Friday.
In the picture, the governor, though ailing, appeared seated
on a motorable chair, with his wife standing beside him. The medical facility’s
background indicated where the photograph might have been taken.
Betty expressed her confidence and optimism in the caption,
stating, “Aketi dey kampe! Victory for us!” It was an encouraging
message, highlighting their resilience during this challenging time.
Coincidentally, the photo was shared on the occasion of the
governor’s 67th birthday. Born on July 21, 1956, he had earlier posted a
birthday picture on his Twitter handle to celebrate the milestone.
The governor’s health had been a matter of public concern for
several weeks. He had taken a 21-day leave starting from June 7, intending to
return on July 6. During his absence, his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, acted on
his behalf. However, Governor Akeredolu later extended his medical leave when
he did not resume work on the initially planned date.
The situation escalated when Abdullahi Adamu, the former
national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made controversial
remarks claiming that Akeredolu was hospitalized and in an “extreme state
of incapacity.” The Ondo government swiftly refuted Adamu’s claims and
reassured the state’s residents that the governor would soon be back to his
duties.
In the midst of uncertainty, Betty’s heartfelt gesture and
the governor’s determination to celebrate his birthday and recover provided a
glimmer of hope for the people of Ondo State.
