Fresh Attack Rocks Kano as Gunmen Kidnap Rogo APC Chairman, Kill Two

Gunmen have abducted the All Progressives Congress Chairman of Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Fanka, killing two residents during a late-night attack on the community.

The attackers reportedly stormed the area at about 11pm on Monday and opened fire, causing panic among residents who rushed to safer locations.

According to a resident who spoke on Tuesday on condition of anonymity, the two victims were killed when they attempted to stop the gunmen from taking away Fanka.

The resident said the attackers, who were armed with sophisticated weapons, overpowered those who tried to resist the abduction.

“The two people killed couldn’t stop them from whisking away the party chairman because they were in possession of sophisticated weapons,” the resident said.

Fanka’s abduction has added to growing security concerns across Kano State, following a series of deadly attacks and kidnappings recorded in different communities within a few days.

The latest incident occurred less than a day after the killing of the APC Chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area, Alhaji Garba Buba.

Buba was reportedly killed alongside another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma, when gunmen attacked Rantan community on Sunday night.

The police subsequently commenced an investigation into the incident and launched efforts to track down those responsible.

Earlier, suspected bandits had attacked Chiromawa community in Garun Mallam Local Government Area on Saturday night and abducted the Sarkin Noman Kano, Alhaji Yusif Nadabo.

Nadabo was later rescued following intervention by police and other security personnel, supported by local residents. Three people were reportedly injured during the attack.

The three incidents, recorded in neighbouring parts of Kano within approximately 72 hours, have heightened anxiety among residents and renewed concerns about the activities of suspected bandits and kidnappers in the state.

Residents and community leaders are now calling for increased security presence and stronger measures to prevent further attacks and protect vulnerable communities.

The latest wave of violence comes as the Federal Government works on a broader security strategy for the country. On Monday, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammad Matawalle, announced plans for a five-year defence and security strategy aimed at addressing emerging security threats.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Police Command had not provided an official update on Fanka’s abduction and the two deaths recorded in Rogo.
