Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed hope for a better Nigeria by 2031, saying she wants to leave the Presidential Villa at the end of her husband’s second-term bid and enjoy the country as a woman in her 70s.
Remi Tinubu made the remarks on Friday while inaugurating the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a grassroots political group mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The First Lady said she hoped to see a country with improved infrastructure and more efficient public services by the time she leaves Aso Rock.
“I want to leave Aso Rock, in 2031, by the grace of God, and enter a Nigeria that me as a 70-something-year-old woman will enjoy,” she said.
She also expressed optimism about improvements in the country’s aviation infrastructure, saying she wanted to travel more easily and experience faster airport services.
“I want to get to the airport. I want to travel, you know, so quickly. And you can see our airports too are changing,” she added.
First Lady Highlights Government Achievements
Remi Tinubu argued that developments were taking place across the country, although some Nigerians might not fully recognise the changes.
She jokingly suggested that those who failed to notice the improvements could be given “Bola Tinubu eyeglasses”, referencing the government’s JigiBola initiative.
“So things are happening in Nigeria, except, you know, those who don’t see; maybe we’ll give them some, you know, Bola Tinubu eyeglasses. We are doing that, JigiBola,” she said.
Her comments came amid continuing public debate over the administration’s economic policies, infrastructure development and the rising cost of living.
Commissions Campaign Headquarters Ahead of 2027
At the event, the First Lady formally inaugurated the Abuja headquarters of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a group campaigning for the President’s return to office in the 2027 general election.
She expressed support for her husband’s re-election bid, describing the inauguration as part of efforts towards securing victory at the polls.
“So to the glory of God, and for the victory of Mr President come 2027, I hereby formally commission the PBAT door-to-door movement campaign headquarters Abuja,” she said.
President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, and the 2027 election is expected to determine whether he secures a second four-year term.
The First Lady’s remarks combined an expression of hope for Nigeria’s future with a public endorsement of the political campaign seeking to keep her husband in office until 2031.
