Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and fined €255 by the Portuguese Football Federation after admitting to walking out on Portugal’s camp during recent Nations League fixtures.
The federation, which had provisionally suspended the forward, announced on Monday that the punishment was “adequate and sufficient.”
According to the federation, Ronaldo admitted to the allegations in a formal statement submitted on Friday. His admission and clean disciplinary record were considered mitigating factors in determining the penalty.
The €255 fine represents the maximum amount permitted under the federation’s regulations after the mitigating circumstances were taken into account.
Ronaldo retains the right to appeal the suspension. The 40-year-old had previously apologised for his actions and acknowledged that he expected to face disciplinary consequences.
The incident reportedly followed a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus over an alleged agreement concerning Ronaldo’s playing time. The forward featured in Portugal’s opening victory over Wales but was an unused substitute in a subsequent win over Norway on September 27.
Portugal continued its campaign without Ronaldo, defeating Denmark and Norway again to secure qualification for the Nations League quarter-finals.
The suspension took effect on October 1, when Portugal faced Denmark. Ronaldo has already served 19 days of the ban and is expected to return for Portugal’s next Nations League match against Denmark on November 14.
