In a significant call to action, the First Lady of Nigeria,
Oluremi Tinubu, delivered an impassioned plea
on Friday to the wives of the 36
state governors, urging them to utilize their positions meaningfully.
Recognizing the immense potential they held, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the
importance of positively impacting the lives of not only their fellow state
residents but also all Nigerians across the country.
The gathering, hosted by Mrs. Tinubu, was convened to
formally introduce and familiarize the governor’s wives with the objectives and
mission of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). This essential initiative aimed
to bring about positive change and progress in various spheres of society. A
statement released by Mrs. Tinubu’s spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, titled ‘First
Lady Sen Oluremi Tinubu CON meets with Wives of Governors on Renewed Hope
Initiative,’ revealed the purpose and outcome of the meeting.
During the meeting, Mrs. Tinubu congratulated the governor’s
wives on the successful conduct of the 2023 elections, which brought their
husbands into office. However, she reminded them that it was now time to
fulfill the promises made during the election campaigns. Understanding the
influential role they played, Mrs. Tinubu stressed the need for their unwavering
support to ensure the reach and impact of RHI extended to every corner of the
country.
Reassuring the wives of the governors, the First Lady pledged
that the Renewed Hope Initiative would not interfere with their personal
programs and projects. On the contrary, she expressed her belief that their
collaboration and support would greatly enhance the effectiveness of the
initiative. She stated, “I wish to remind each of us that the exalted
positions we are in today should be seen as an opportunity to impact more
meaningfully, not only in the lives of people in your states but Nigeria as a
whole.”
Following the meeting, the wife of the Kwara State Governor,
Ambassador Olufolake Abdulrazak, spoke to journalists and conveyed her
unwavering commitment, as well as the willingness of the other governors’
wives, to support the Renewed Hope Initiative. She affirmed their intention to
appoint zonal coordinators who would ensure that the initiative reached the
grassroots level, benefiting individuals at the grassroots.
Importantly, Mrs. Abdulrazak confirmed that the RHI would not
interfere with the individual projects undertaken by the governor’s wives in
their respective states. Instead, the initiative would work hand in hand with
their efforts, amplifying their impact and fostering a collaborative approach.
The Renewed Hope Initiative held great significance as it was
a pet project of the Office of the First Lady. It embodied the vision and
dedication of Mrs. Tinubu to bring about positive change and create a better future
for all Nigerians. Through this gathering and her inspiring words, she rallied
the wives of the state governors to use their influential positions to make a
tangible difference, not only within their states but throughout the entire
nation.
