Makurdi, Benue State – In a shocking turn of events, Pastor Ezekiel Ahmed, the spiritual leader of a parish within the Dunamis International Gospel Centre situated at Mission Ward North Bank in Makurdi, Benue State, lost his life on Tuesday when the church building suddenly collapsed, trapping him and several worshippers.
According to sources, at the time of the incident, there were four other individuals inside the church who sustained injuries as a result of the collapsing structure. Eyewitnesses recounted that the victims were engaged in prayer when the tragic incident unfolded.
Nath, an eyewitness who rushed to the scene to assist, shared, “As soon as we heard the sound of the building collapsing, we rushed to the place in an attempt to rescue those trapped. It took us some minutes before we could rescue the victims from the debris. Four people were injured, and one person, later identified as the pastor of the church, was found dead.”
Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Batholomew Onyeka, stated, “The incident happened, and one person died in the process. You know when debris falls on people like that, the immediate reaction is what happens to the victims. People who rushed to the scene were able to rescue four people while one person died. Those who were injured are responding to treatment.”
The church’s Senior Pastor, Paul Enenche, paid a visit to the collapsed church for an on-the-spot assessment on Tuesday. Expressing his grief, Pastor Enenche referred to the situation as “a sad development,” particularly emphasizing the loss of “a dedicated servant of God.”
He also expressed gratitude, remarking, “There is something to thank God for. If you look critically, it would have been worse if it happened during the eight hours Liberty Service or all-night last Friday.”
