In
a recent pursuit to join the ranks of extraordinary individuals attempting to
break Guinness World
Records, Tembu Ebere, a Nigerian citizen, embarked on an
unusual challenge. Taking to social media, Ebere announced his intention to cry
nonstop for seven days, aiming to establish a new record for continuous
weeping.
This
endeavor followed the remarkable achievement of Hilda Baci, a Nigerian chef,
who recently secured the record for the longest cooking marathon by an
individual, lasting an impressive 93 hours and 11 minutes.
Sharing
his motivation for entering the Guinness Book of World Records, Ebere spoke
with the BBC about the tremendous effort he exerted to induce tears for an entire
week. However, his ambitious pursuit was not without its consequences. During
the relentless crying, Ebere experienced excruciating headaches, puffy eyes,
and a swollen face. Astonishingly, he even endured a temporary loss of vision,
lasting approximately 45 minutes.
Undeterred
by these challenges, Ebere revealed his determination to persist and fulfill
his original plan of crying continuously for seven days. Recognizing the need
to adjust his strategy, he decided to reduce the intensity of his wailing while
still aiming to achieve the desired record.
Nigerians
Enthused by Record-Breaking Attempts
In
a separate development, the Guinness World Records recently disclosed an
unprecedented surge in applications from Nigerians. Naija News reports that the
organization received approximately 1,500 record-breaking applications from
Nigerian citizens.
This
surge in submissions can be attributed to the tremendous enthusiasm generated
by Hilda Baci’s remarkable feat in the cooking category. Following her record-setting
93-hour cooking marathon, many Nigerians were inspired to consider their own
Guinness World Records attempts, particularly in marathon-related endeavors.
In
a conversation with Legit NG, a representative from Guinness World Records
acknowledged the significant impact of Hilda Baci’s accomplishment, stating,
“The attention and excitement that Hilda Baci’s cooking marathon gained
was certainly an incentive for many Nigerians to consider attempting a Guinness
World Records title. Since her record attempt, there has been a spike in
applications from Nigeria, particularly for marathon records.”
Furthermore,
the representative revealed that over 1,500 record applications from Nigeria
were received since May, showcasing the country’s growing interest in showcasing
extraordinary talents and abilities.
A
Wave of Ambitious Pursuits
Building
on the momentum created by Hilda Baci, several individuals from diverse
backgrounds have embarked on their own audacious record-breaking attempts.
Damilola Adeparusi, a chef, took on a five-day cooking marathon shortly after
Baci’s accomplishment. Adeyeye Adeola, inspired by Baci’s record, sought to
surpass it with an impressive 150-hour cooking endeavor. Additionally, Temitope
Adebayo, a chef based in Ibadan, announced his intention to cook for over 120
hours.
Outside
the culinary realm, Hassan Joshua Bature, a computer science lecturer at the
Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), surprised many by declaring his plan to
undertake a teaching marathon lasting 150 hours.
Further
diversifying the range of record-breaking attempts, Morenikeji, a hair stylist,
initiated a hair-braiding challenge, aiming to braid continuously for over 100
hours.
Guinness

records, Guinness World Records issued a brief statement advising aspiring
participants to thoroughly consult with their team before embarking on their
record-breaking endeavors. This guidance emphasizes the importance of proper
preparation and understanding the intricacies of each record to ensure safety
