Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has praised teachers across the state for their dedication and sacrifices, assuring them of continued government support to improve their welfare and working conditions.
Okpebholo made the commitment in a statement on Monday to commemorate the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, describing teachers as critical to the development of society and the preparation of future generations.
The governor expressed appreciation to public school teachers for their commitment to educating children and shaping their values, character and skills.
He said his administration remained committed to creating an education system where teachers are adequately motivated and supported.
“First, I commend Edo teachers for their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to educating the next generation and I assure them that this administration will continue to prioritise their welfare and improve the education sector,” Okpebholo said.
He noted that teachers had continued to serve the state despite various challenges, assuring them that their welfare remained a priority for his administration.
“Our administration believes that quality education starts with motivated and adequately supported teachers. We will therefore continue to invest in our teachers, our schools and the wider education system,” he added.
The governor also highlighted measures taken by his administration to address staffing and job security in public schools.
According to him, 5,000 contract teachers have been absorbed into the state civil service, while another 6,000 teachers have been recruited to address shortages across public schools.
“We cannot build schools and leave them without teachers. Our priority is to ensure that our children have access to qualified teachers, whether they are in Benin City or in our rural communities,” he said.
Okpebholo congratulated teachers throughout Edo State and thanked them for their contribution to the state’s development.
“To every teacher in Edo State, I say thank you for your service. Happy World Teachers’ Day,” he said.
