Global music star Tiwa Savage has awarded scholarships worth over $2 million to 18 Nigerian students through her foundation, in partnership with Berklee College of Music.
The beneficiaries emerged at the grand finale of the Berklee in Nigeria programme held in Lagos, a talent development initiative designed to give young creatives access to world-class music education in the United States.
According to organisers, the selection process attracted more than 2,000 applicants, out of which 120 were shortlisted for an intensive four-day training programme. The final 18 candidates were chosen after undergoing sessions in performance, songwriting, music production, and the business of music, facilitated by Berklee faculty members.
The successful students are expected to study at Berklee in Boston for a three-year programme, gaining international exposure and professional training.
Savage, who is also an alumna of the institution, announced the milestone on social media, describing it as a major step toward expanding opportunities for African talent.
She noted that the initiative is aimed at addressing barriers faced by aspiring artists, particularly the high cost of quality music education, while creating pathways for global recognition.
The programme forms part of broader efforts to connect emerging Nigerian creatives with international platforms and strengthen the country’s presence in the global music industry.
