The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will unveil its National Campaign Council and present its financial statement at its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, October 26, in Abuja.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to unveil its National Campaign Council and publicly present its statement of account as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq., noting that the NEC meeting would take place at 10 a.m. at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
According to the statement, the presentation of the financial statement by the party’s National Treasurer would demonstrate its commitment to transparency and accountability.
“A major highlight of the meeting will be the release and presentation of the party’s Statement of Account by the National Treasurer. This is in deference to our avowed commitment to the principles of transparency and accountability,” the statement said.
The NDC also challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to disclose their finances and adopt similar transparency measures.
“In this regard, we challenge other political parties, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to emulate this level of openness and transparency in the management of their finances,” the statement added.
NDC Explains Financial Position
The party also addressed speculation about its financial resources, attributing its limited funds, in part, to the inability of many of its candidates to pay for nomination forms.
According to the NDC, approximately 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford the expression-of-interest forms because of the economic difficulties facing the country.
The party blamed what it described as poverty, hunger and deprivation on the economic policies of the APC-led administration.
“However, contrary to speculations in the public domain, and due to the level of poverty, hunger and deprivation in the country occasioned by the rudderless APC and its amorphous economic policies, about 80% of our candidates could not afford the Expression of Interest forms,” the statement said.
The NDC added that it provided the forms free of charge to candidates who could not afford them.
Campaign Council to Cover All Election Levels
The party said the NEC meeting would also feature the unveiling of its National Campaign Council, which would coordinate campaigns for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
It further disclosed that candidates would receive their certificates of return for their respective offices during the meeting.
The announcement comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the NDC declaring its readiness to participate in the electoral process.
“The NDC is turbo-charged and ready to give Nigerians the altruistic leadership the nation deserves,” the statement said.
