‘I’ll Die After Church on a Sunday’ — Pastor Adeboye Shares Prophetic Insight, Urges Believers to Fight for Their Rights

LAGOS — The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has once again shared his personal vision of how he believes his life on earth will come to an end—peacefully, on a Sunday, following a church service and a meal of pounded yam.

Speaking on the fourth day of RCCG’s ongoing 2025 International Convention themed “The Overcomers,” Pastor Adeboye reaffirmed a prophecy he first made public two years ago.

“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” he declared, emphasizing his belief in a painless and dignified exit.

Adeboye’s comments came during a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions,” where he urged Christians to actively claim the spiritual promises and blessings made available to them through Jesus Christ. He drew parallels between modern-day believers and the biblical Israelites, who had to fight to possess the Promised Land.

“In many cases, you may have to fight for what already belongs to you,” he said. “Jesus Christ paid in full for your healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, and long life. But there’s a thief out there who comes to steal, kill, and destroy.”

“Fight for What’s Yours,” Adeboye Charges Believers

During his message, Pastor Adeboye listed four key areas where Christians must resist spiritual attacks: healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, and longevity. He stressed that these are divine inheritances, and should not be taken lightly.

“As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor,” he stated bluntly. “But God didn’t call you to poverty. He paid a terrible price so that you would have abundance.”

He addressed the criticism often faced by wealthy believers, pointing out the double standard in public perception: “If you succeed, they criticize you. If you die poor, they ask, ‘Where is your God?’”

On the matter of childlessness and health battles, Adeboye cited biblical examples like Rachel and Hannah, who overcame barrenness through faith and persistent prayer.

“Stop tolerating what Christ already conquered—sickness, poverty, barrenness, and untimely death. It is what you tolerate that disturbs you,” he said, referencing the story of Jacob wrestling with the angel (Genesis 32) as a spiritual metaphor for perseverance.

Adeboye’s Reflections Stir Public Conversation

Pastor Adeboye’s reflection on his envisioned death—marked by peace and spiritual readiness—has stirred renewed conversation online and within Christian circles. For many, his declaration is seen not as morbid, but as a powerful reminder of living with purpose and leaving behind a legacy of faith.

He concluded with a call for Christians to reject fear and spiritual complacency:

“We must not remain under the torment of darkness. Fight for your inheritance. Christ paid too high a price for you to live defeated.”

The RCCG International Convention continues through the weekend, drawing thousands of worshippers from around the world for a week of revival, worship, and spiritual impartation.
