Tyson Fury has claimed that his highly anticipated heavyweight showdown with long-time rival Anthony Joshua could be called off, accusing promoter Eddie Hearn of demanding more money to finalise the fight.
Fury and Joshua are reportedly expected to meet in a blockbuster bout scheduled for November 20 in New York City, although Hearn has maintained that some aspects of the agreement still need to be concluded.
However, the negotiations appeared to take a fresh twist after Fury launched a scathing attack on Hearn and Joshua in an Instagram post, alleging that financial demands were threatening the proposed fight.
The former world heavyweight champion accused Hearn of seeking additional funds from Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh, despite the promoter and Joshua benefiting from several major sporting ventures linked to Saudi Arabia.
“Quick update: Doesn’t look like they’re going to sign the fight, doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” Fury said.
“All because Eddie Hearn and that want more money.”
Fury also criticised the financial arrangements surrounding Hearn and Joshua’s previous sporting projects, claiming that the promoter had already benefited significantly from deals involving boxing, snooker and darts.
The 38-year-old then launched an angry verbal attack on Hearn and Joshua, accusing them of allowing financial demands to jeopardise a fight that has been anticipated by boxing fans for years.
Hearn and Joshua are yet to publicly respond to Fury’s latest claims.
The development has cast fresh doubt over whether the two British heavyweight stars will finally face each other in the ring, with fans now awaiting further clarification from both camps.
