The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has arrested a 27-year-old man, Umar Adamu-Umar, with cannabis valued at over N10 million.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the suspect, who resides in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, was apprehended on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano Road. He was intercepted by NDLEA operatives attached to the Kiru Area Command while transporting 19 parcels of cannabis weighing 9 kilograms from Lagos to Kano.
Muhammad-Maigatari disclosed that Adamu-Umar had been on the agency’s watchlist for some time. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the illegal drug trade.
The NDLEA spokesperson noted that the seizure represented a significant victory in the fight against narcotics, as it disrupted the traffickers’ supply chain, denied them millions in revenue, and weakened their capacity to fund other criminal activities.
“This interception is not just a financial blow to drug traffickers but also a safeguard for communities that would have suffered the social and economic consequences of these illicit drugs,” he said.
He further assured that under the leadership of Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the Kano Strategic Command would intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations to combat drug trafficking in the state.
