The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 50-year-old widow and fashion designer, Mrs. Ifeoma Henrietta Ezewuike, for attempting to traffic 1.3 kilograms of cocaine while disguised as a pregnant woman.
Ezewuike, who runs Golden Star Creation, a fashion outfit in Okota, Lagos, was apprehended on Friday, August 22, 2025, at a bus terminal in Jibowu, Yaba. She was reportedly en route to Abuja to deliver the drug consignment to customers when operatives swooped in on her.
In a statement released on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi disclosed that a follow-up raid on her residence in Ago Palace Way, Okota, yielded an additional 200 grams of a cutting agent used in processing cocaine.
During interrogation, Ezewuike, a mother of one, admitted that she inherited the illicit trade from her late husband, who died two years ago, despite running her fashion business for over two decades.
“The widow disguised herself with a fake pregnancy to avoid scrutiny and detection,” Babafemi said. “She confessed that her late husband initiated her into the drug business, which she continued after his death.”
The NDLEA also announced a series of related seizures across the country. In Lagos, operatives intercepted 90 parcels of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis weighing 48.6 kilograms. The consignment, concealed in three cartons of kitchen sinks, was imported from the United States and intercepted at a courier company on Tuesday, August 19.
In Adamawa State, NDLEA officers raided the home of a notorious dealer, Idris Garba, in Yola South. Although Garba escaped by scaling a fence, one of his associates, 55-year-old Boniface Nnaji, was arrested. From the premises, officers recovered a black Toyota Tundra jeep and a Toyota Yaris, both allegedly used to ferry 354,480 pills of tramadol and other opioids.
Similar crackdowns were recorded in Kano, Abuja, Taraba, Edo, Delta, Ondo, and Ekiti, where thousands of pills of opioids, codeine syrup, and tramadol were seized, while cannabis farms and warehouses were destroyed.
The agency said the nationwide operations highlight its renewed commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and bringing offenders to justice.
