Leaders of the South-South region under the umbrella of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) have expressed profound sorrow over the passing of former Inspector-General of Police and immediate past Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Chief Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, describing him as “a hero beyond measure and a national treasure.”
In a statement jointly signed by PANDEF’s National Chairman, Ambassador Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, and National Publicity Secretary, Chief Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, the forum said the news of Arase’s death on Sunday, August 31, 2025, came with “shock, pain, and deep devastation.”
The South-South body praised Arase’s distinguished service in Nigeria’s law enforcement and public sector, noting that he left an indelible mark as an outstanding police officer, lawyer, and academic. “Dr. Arase’s career stood out for his relentless pursuit of excellence, passion for justice, and his tireless commitment to safeguarding Nigeria,” PANDEF stated.
They recalled his reforms in improving the welfare of police officers and his role in elevating the standards of policing in Nigeria, which earned him admiration both nationally and internationally.
Beyond his national service, PANDEF highlighted Arase’s connection to the Niger Delta, where he once served as Edo State chapter chairman of the forum before later joining its Board of Trustees. “Accepting to serve in that role, despite his towering national stature, reflected his humility, deep love for his people, and devotion to the progress of the Niger Delta,” the statement read.
The group described him as “a true leader, mentor, and role model, whose humility, generosity, and humanity touched countless lives.”
While extending heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Sabongida Ora in Edo State, and Nigerians at large, PANDEF prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
“Dr. Solomon Arase will forever remain etched in Nigeria’s history as a national hero of special class — a man whose legacy of service, courage, and integrity will continue to inspire generations,” the forum declared.
