The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the death of one officer during a gunfight that foiled a major kidnapping attempt in Guto Village, a border community in Bwari Area Council, in the early hours of Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command received a distress call at about 1:10 a.m. after around 30 heavily armed attackers stormed the community, targeting a resident and his family for abduction.
Operatives from the Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team and the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS) were immediately dispatched to the scene. On sighting the police teams, the attackers—who had already begun forcing entry into the victim’s home—opened fire, triggering a fierce exchange.
According to Adeh, officers responded with “precision and superior firepower,” neutralizing two of the assailants while the rest fled into surrounding bushes and mountainous terrain.
During the gun duel, one police officer sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Bwari General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The command described the fallen officer as a courageous hero who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, praised the operatives for their swift response, professionalism, and bravery, while extending heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family and colleagues. He assured that intensified security operations will continue across the FCT to combat criminal elements.
The CP also commended the vigilance of Guto residents and urged communities across the FCT to report suspicious activity using the emergency lines provided by the command.
