Nigeria has lost one of its most influential Islamic scholars, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, whose death was confirmed early Thursday morning.
The revered leader of the Tijjaniyya Islamic order passed away at an advanced age, prompting an outpouring of tributes from religious followers, political leaders, and students across the country.
Former presidential aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, confirmed the news in a post on X, describing the cleric’s passing as a profound loss.
“It is with a heavy heart and complete submission to the will of Allah that we receive the news of the passing of our revered leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi,” he wrote, offering prayers for Allah’s forgiveness and eternal rest for the deceased.
The scholar’s son, Sayyadi Ali Dahiru Usman Bauchi, also confirmed the development, noting that his father had lived a fulfilled life dedicated to faith and service.
“Sheikh has returned to his Creator. We are all from Allah and to Him we shall all return,” he said.
“It is time for Sheikh to rest. We thank Almighty Allah… Sheikh’s life was well spent. Alhamdulillah.”
Sayyadi, who spoke from Madinah, said funeral arrangements had not yet been finalized, with burial likely to take place in either Abuja or Bauchi.
Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, widely respected for his decades of scholarship, spiritual leadership, and nationwide religious influence, leaves behind thousands of followers and a legacy deeply rooted in Islamic teaching and community service.
