Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than 24 hours before the party’s scheduled governorship primary.
The development comes amid deepening factional crises within the Osun PDP, which had already thrown Tuesday’s primary into uncertainty. Earlier on Monday, the state PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, announced that the primary would no longer hold due to unresolved internal disputes, adding that Governor Adeleke was no longer seeking the party’s nomination.
However, a conflicting directive emerged from the PDP national secretariat, insisting that the primary would proceed as planned at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
Adeleke’s resignation letter, dated November 4, 2025, surfaced later on Monday evening. Addressed to the chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, the governor cited escalating national leadership issues within the PDP as the reason for his decision to exit the party.
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the letter read.
Governor Adeleke also expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform through which he was elected both as a senator representing Osun West and later as governor of the state.
His resignation adds a new twist to the political turbulence within the Osun PDP, leaving questions about his next political move and the future of the party’s governorship contest.
