The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied plans to conduct state and local government congresses, describing reports suggesting otherwise as false and misleading.
The party’s clarification followed a publication in which its National Chairman, Senator David Mark, was quoted as directing members to organise congresses across states and local governments to elect new officials. ADC leaders said the report did not emanate from the party and should be disregarded.
In a statement jointly signed by the Kogi State Chairman of the party and Chairman of the ADC Chairmen’s Forum, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, and the Edo State ADC Chairman and Secretary of the forum, Hon. Kennedy Odion, the party said its leadership met with Senator Mark on Monday and was shocked by the purported directive attributed to him.
According to the statement, Senator Mark categorically disowned the publication, stressing that it did not originate from his office and was neither authorised by him nor known to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
“The National Chairman stated categorically that the publication calling for state and local government congresses of the party did not originate from his office. He further confirmed that he neither authorised nor had prior knowledge of the document, and that it was unknown to the National Working Committee of the party,” the statement said.
The ADC described the publication as illegal, invalid and of no effect, urging party members, stakeholders and the general public to completely disregard it. The party also dismissed any claims or insinuations suggesting that congresses would be held at the state or local government levels as entirely false.
The statement further reaffirmed the loyalty of ADC state chairmen to the Senator David Mark–led National Working Committee, pledging continued commitment to the party’s growth and success in future elections, including the 2027 general elections.
