Investigators probing the fatal road accident involving former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, have indicated that the driver of the vehicle may face prosecution over the incident.
A source with knowledge of the investigation said preliminary findings by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) revealed that the vehicle was travelling at high speed and engaged in wrongful overtaking at the time of the crash. Both actions are considered major traffic violations and could attract criminal liability, especially where loss of life is involved.
According to the source, relevant reports are being compiled and forwarded to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police, which is liaising with legal officers to determine possible charges. Prosecutors are said to be weighing offences related to reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.
The source further disclosed that Joshua sustained a fracture to one of his legs in the crash, though his condition is reported to be stable.
While no official statement has yet been issued by authorities, the incident has reignited conversations around road safety enforcement and driver accountability on major highways across the country.
The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Two members of Joshua’s entourage, identified as Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, were confirmed dead at the scene.
