KANO — Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has said his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections lies solely in God’s hands, stressing that his current priority remains the welfare of the people.
The governor made the remark on Saturday during the distribution of motorcycles to social media handlers drawn from the state’s 44 local government areas.
According to Yusuf, governance and unity should take precedence over early political calculations.
“Whatever decision we take, it is God that destined it, and we believe He will guide us. For me, the people come first before 2027,” he said.
He urged residents to embrace unity and collective responsibility in addressing Kano’s challenges.
“Let us unite to uplift Kano and its people out of difficulties. If we do that sincerely, every other thing will fall into place with ease,” Yusuf added.
The governor further noted the unpredictability of life, saying political ambitions should always be subject to divine will.
“Only God knows tonight, tomorrow or next who will live to see them, not to even talk about 2027. We believe when we get there, God will see us through. If God decides it is us, so be it. If He decides otherwise, it is still His will,” he said.
Yusuf also cautioned social media influencers against promoting division and hate, urging them instead to use their platforms to foster peace and unity across the state.
He explained that the motorcycle distribution was meant to appreciate the social media handlers who actively supported his campaign across the nooks and crannies of Kano during the last election.
Meanwhile, Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, was noticeably absent from the event, marking Yusuf’s first public appearance since announcing his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
The deputy governor’s absence has fueled speculation of a growing rift between the two leaders. In previous public engagements, Gwarzo was often seen alongside the governor.
Sources said that since the emergence of political tensions in the state, the deputy governor has appeared to align more closely with NNPP leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
It was also gathered that hours before Yusuf announced his resignation from the NNPP, Gwarzo was at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to receive Kwankwaso, who had returned to the state from a trip.
