Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has thrown his weight behind Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, assuring him of the party’s ticket and victory in the 2027 governorship election following his return to the APC.
Ganduje gave the assurance on Monday during a formal reception held at the Coronation Hall of the Kano Government House to welcome Yusuf back into the ruling party after his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Describing the governor’s return as a “historic homecoming,” Ganduje said Yusuf’s re-entry into the APC marked a significant political boost for the party in Kano State and reaffirmed its unity ahead of future elections.
He disclosed that consultations had already been held with other governorship aspirants within the party, adding that they had agreed to rally behind Yusuf’s second-term ambition.
“You will emerge victorious in 2027,” Ganduje told the governor. “We have engaged all aspirants, and they have pledged their support for you. In the APC, every sitting governor automatically becomes the leader of the party in his state. By that principle, you are now the leader of APC in Kano.”
Ganduje recalled Yusuf’s earlier involvement in the formation of the APC, noting that his temporary departure was due to political disagreements and changing alliances.
“We were together in APC from the beginning. The party was built with your participation,” he said. “Later, because of political differences and redirection, you left for NNPP. Today, we are grateful that you have returned to your political home.”
He assured the governor of the party’s full backing at both state and national levels, stressing that the APC leadership was committed to ensuring stability and cohesion in Kano ahead of the next election cycle.
The event attracted party leaders, government officials and supporters, who welcomed Yusuf back with chants and displays of solidarity, signaling a renewed alliance expected to reshape Kano’s political landscape as preparations for 2027 gather momentum.
