The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has dismissed 43 of its personnel over various acts of indiscipline, including desertion, scandalous conduct and patrol-related misconduct.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide. According to the statement, 31 officers were dismissed for desertion, five for scandalous behaviour, while seven were sanctioned for offences linked to patrol misconduct.
The Corps said the disciplinary action underscores its commitment to upholding professionalism, stressing that the FRSC badge represents honour and responsibility. It warned that any personnel found violating institutional standards would be subjected to the full weight of its disciplinary procedures.
Reacting to the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the dismissals as a clear demonstration of the FRSC’s zero-tolerance policy for indiscipline and ethical breaches. He said the Corps remains a professional paramilitary organisation governed by strict operational guidelines and would not tolerate actions capable of eroding public trust or compromising its mandate.
Mohammed noted that desertion constitutes a serious violation of service oath, particularly in an organisation tasked with safeguarding the lives of road users nationwide. He added that scandalous behaviour and patrol misconduct undermine public confidence and run contrary to the Corps’ core values of discipline, transparency and service excellence.
The FRSC reassured Nigerians of its resolve to strengthen internal monitoring and supervision, enhance ethical reorientation across commands, and maintain its commitment to ensuring safer roads, while urging the public to continue supporting its activities.
