President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the promotion of Ibrahim Kabiru Masari to the position of Special Adviser on Political Affairs, strengthening his role within the presidency’s political coordination team.
Masari, a close political ally of the president, previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs, a role he was appointed to in 2023 shortly after Tinubu assumed office.
The promotion elevates Masari’s responsibilities within the administration, placing him among the senior advisers who assist the president in managing political relations, party affairs, and strategic engagements with political stakeholders across the country.
Before joining the federal government, the Katsina-born politician held a key position within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He served as the party’s National Welfare Secretary during the tenure of Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman.
In his new capacity as Special Adviser, Masari will work alongside Yau Darazo, who was appointed to the same role by President Tinubu in July 2023.
The Office of the Special Adviser on Political Affairs plays a significant role in coordinating the administration’s political strategy, maintaining relations with party leaders and elected officials, and facilitating engagement between the presidency and various political groups nationwide.
Observers say Masari’s elevation reflects the president’s continued reliance on trusted political allies to strengthen coordination between the government and the ruling party ahead of key political activities and policy engagements.
