Saudi Arabia has warned Iran against further escalation after several missile and drone attacks targeted key locations in the kingdom, including a military air base and a major oil facility.
Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman issued the warning on Saturday, urging Iran to avoid actions that could worsen tensions in the Gulf region.
In statements released by the Saudi defence ministry, officials said the kingdom’s air defence systems successfully intercepted multiple missile launches aimed at an air base that hosts United States military personnel.
According to the ministry, a ballistic missile fired toward Prince Sultan Air Base, located southeast of the capital Riyadh, was detected and destroyed before it could reach its target. The Saudi Press Agency later reported that another missile launched toward the same base was also intercepted by Saudi forces.
The kingdom also reported a wave of drone attacks on critical energy infrastructure. At least 17 drones were launched toward the Shaybah Oil Field, situated near the border with the United Arab Emirates. Saudi authorities said all the drones were successfully intercepted and destroyed before causing damage.
In a separate incident, two additional drones were shot down east of Riyadh, the defence ministry said.
The latest attacks come amid rising tensions across the Gulf, following military strikes by the United States and Israel on targets inside Iran last week, an operation that has intensified fears of a broader regional conflict.
Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, had earlier reported two drone attacks targeting the Ras Tanura Refinery in the kingdom’s eastern region.
Prince Khalid spoke about the situation after meeting with Asim Munir, Pakistan’s army chief, where the two leaders discussed the recent attacks and potential measures to address the growing security threat.
“We stressed that such actions undermine regional security and stability,” Prince Khalid wrote in a post on the social media platform X. “We hope the Iranian side will exercise wisdom and avoid miscalculation.”
The incidents highlight increasing security concerns in the Gulf as tensions continue to rise following the recent escalation between Iran and its regional rivals.
