Golf legend Tiger Woods has been released on bail following his arrest over a crash in Florida that led to charges of driving under the influence.
Authorities said the incident occurred on Friday afternoon when Woods’ vehicle overturned while attempting to pass a trailer on a local roadway. Despite the severity of the crash, both Woods and the other driver involved escaped without injuries.
According to police reports, officers at the scene observed that Woods appeared “lethargic,” raising suspicions of impairment potentially linked to medication. While a breathalyser test returned negative, he reportedly declined to provide a urine sample.
Woods was taken into custody and held for approximately eight hours before being released on bond early Saturday. John Budensiek, the Martin County Sheriff, stated that roadside assessments indicated “signs of impairment,” which led to the golfer’s arrest.
He was subsequently charged with driving under the influence, property damage, and refusal to comply with a lawful test. Officials confirmed that the charges are misdemeanors and not classified as felonies.
Investigators further noted that Woods had been driving at a high speed prior to the crash, exceeding the 30 mph limit, before his vehicle tipped onto its side and slid to a halt. Images from the scene showed the car resting on the driver’s side, highlighting the force of the दुर्घادث.
The latest episode adds to a history of traffic-related incidents involving the 15-time major champion. In 2017, Woods was arrested in Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving. He also survived a serious crash in California in 2021 that resulted in multiple leg injuries and required extensive surgery.
Officials said the recent crash occurred near Woods’ Florida residence as he attempted to overtake another vehicle before colliding with its trailer and overturning.
