Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully rescued more than 150 civilians and prevented a large-scale abduction attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents in Nigeria’s North-East region.
The incident occurred on March 30, 2026, during a military operation conducted by the Joint Task Force in the area. According to the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Sani Uba, troops stationed at Dutse Kura under Sector 2 were attacked while escorting civilians along the Buratai–Kamuya route.
During the confrontation, surveillance teams identified a group of insurgents attempting to abduct a large number of civilians, including women and children, using a convoy of about 17 vehicles. In response, the military deployed a Quick Reaction Force to reinforce the troops, triggering a coordinated counter-offensive.
The combined effort forced the insurgents to retreat towards the Mangari axis, abandoning both their captives and vehicles under sustained military pressure. All rescued civilians were subsequently evacuated to Buratai, where they were reunited with their families.
However, the operation was not without casualties. While pursuing the fleeing insurgents along the Bula Zarma–Mangari route, troops encountered an improvised explosive device, which left five soldiers seriously injured. The wounded personnel were immediately evacuated for specialised medical care.
Military authorities said the operation highlights the determination and resilience of troops in safeguarding civilians and countering terrorist activities in the region. They also reassured residents of continued security vigilance, particularly as the Easter season approaches.
