Tinubu to Commission Six Key Projects in Lagos in First Official Visit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will inaugurate six major infrastructure projects in Lagos State during a two-day official visit, marking his first return to the state in an official capacity since assuming office.

The projects, delivered under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, cut across critical sectors such as transportation, education, agriculture, and urban development. The commissioning ceremonies are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, according to state authorities.

Key projects billed for inauguration include the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) headquarters, and the Lagos Multi-Agency Building in Alausa. Others are the Lagos Fresh Food Hub located in Abijo, Ajah; the rehabilitated Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle; and the Maracana Stadium, which features 19 mini-football pitches.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the projects demonstrate the state government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the welfare of residents.

He explained that the developments were designed to address pressing challenges including traffic congestion, food supply, access to quality education, and administrative coordination, while also stimulating economic growth.

According to Omotoso, the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge is expected to ease traffic movement across major routes such as Maryland, Mende, and Allen, creating a more direct connection between Ikeja’s commercial hub and nearby residential areas. He noted that the project was originally conceived over 20 years ago during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos governor but was revived and completed by the current administration.

The Tolu Schools Complex, established in 1981, has also been extensively upgraded following years of deterioration. The revamped facility now includes new classrooms, a vocational training centre, and specialized infrastructure for people living with disabilities, aimed at improving learning conditions for over 20,000 students.

In the agriculture sector, the Lagos Fresh Food Hub is expected to boost food distribution and improve access to fresh produce across the Eti-Osa axis, while reducing reliance on traditional markets.

Similarly, the LAGIS building has been developed as a centralized hub for land administration, urban planning, and geospatial services, providing residents with easier access to government services.

Officials say the visit highlights strong collaboration between the federal and state governments, adding that comprehensive security and logistics arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth exercise.

Traffic authorities disclosed that more than 500 personnel will be deployed across Lagos to manage movement during the visit, while residents have been urged to comply with temporary traffic diversions and security protocols.
