The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
Zuru passed away on Monday night following a period of illness, though the exact nature of his condition has not been disclosed. Sources within the Kebbi State Government confirmed the development, describing it as a significant loss to the state.
The late lawmaker, who represented Zuru Constituency, was regarded as an experienced legislator and an influential figure within the state’s legislative arm.
Reacting to the news, an aide to the governor on Communication and Strategy, Idris Zuru, expressed shock over the development.
“The death of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” he said.
He added that the state government was still gathering details surrounding the circumstances of the Speaker’s death and would make an official statement in due course. Burial arrangements, he noted, would be announced after consultations with the family.
Further information regarding funeral plans is expected to be released by both the state authorities and the bereaved family.
