A chieftain of the opposition, Buba Galadima, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Tinubu will lose the 2027 presidential election, while also alleging attempts to suppress opposition political activities.
Speaking at a recent gathering, Galadima claimed that the political climate is shifting against the current administration, declaring that Tinubu would be defeated regardless of the opposition candidate.
In a controversial remark, he suggested that even an unlikely candidate could unseat the president, underscoring his belief that public sentiment has turned.
Galadima also commended the opposition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), for successfully holding its convention despite what he described as intimidation and last-minute disruptions.
According to him, organisers were informed in the early hours of the event that the venue booking had been cancelled following alleged threats to the property owner. He claimed the owner was warned of possible consequences, including revocation of property rights, if the event proceeded.
Despite the setback, the party went ahead with the convention, a move Galadima described as a bold stand against political pressure.
He noted that the incident could signal broader challenges for opposition parties ahead of future elections, warning that restrictions could extend to campaign activities.
The politician stressed the importance of resilience among opposition groups, urging them to resist any attempts to dictate or limit their political engagement.
“This is about asserting our rights,” he said, adding that the successful convention demonstrated the opposition’s readiness to confront and overcome obstacles.
