All 13 passengers abducted from a Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo road have regained their freedom, bringing relief to families and authorities after days of uncertainty.
Among those released are several candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), who were reportedly traveling to Otukpo to sit for their examinations when armed men attacked the 18-seater vehicle last Wednesday.
Sources indicate that the victims were freed in the early hours of Sunday after spending approximately three days in captivity. While details of the operation that led to their release remain unclear, security forces had reportedly intensified efforts in the area prior to the development.
Following their release, the victims were immediately evacuated for medical attention and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo.
The Benue State Police Commissioner, Ifeanyi Emenari, confirmed the development and stated that a detailed briefing would be provided to the public in due course.
