President Bola Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Bianca, who previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, now takes charge of the ministry at a time the government is seeking to strengthen its global diplomatic footprint.
In a related development, the President nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, pending confirmation by the Senate. Before his nomination, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
A seasoned diplomat, Enikanolaiye brings more than three decades of experience in Nigeria’s foreign service. He has held several high-profile roles, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has represented Nigeria in key diplomatic missions across Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.
According to the presidency, the appointments form part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy framework to enhance efficiency, deepen strategic engagement, and strengthen international partnerships.
President Tinubu congratulated the appointees and urged them to advance Nigeria’s national interest, drive economic diplomacy, promote regional stability, and protect the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
