Suspected terrorists have carried out another deadly attack in Kwara State, killing three mobile police officers in Tenibo community, located in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, comes less than two weeks after a similar incident in Kemanji community, where three soldiers lost their lives following a prolonged gun battle. The latest assault brings the total number of security personnel killed in the area to six within a span of two weeks.
According to local sources, the assailants reportedly emerged from a nearby forest before launching a coordinated strike on a security base in Tenibo. The attackers are said to have overpowered the officers before retreating into the forest after the killings.
The incident has sparked widespread panic across Tenibo and surrounding communities, forcing many residents to flee their homes in search of safety. Eyewitnesses suggest that the attackers appear to be deliberately targeting security operatives and exploiting the forest terrain to evade capture.
A local government staff member in Kaiama, who spoke anonymously, confirmed the attack and raised concerns about the proximity of the forest used as a hideout. Residents have urged authorities to clear the forested area, which they say is less than a kilometre from the community, to reduce the frequency of such attacks.
The Chairman of Kaiama Local Government Area, Abubakar Abdullahi Danladi, also confirmed the incident, describing it as a recurring security challenge. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between local, state, and federal authorities to effectively tackle the threat.
“We are doing our best at the local level, but this situation requires a broader, coordinated response,” he said.
The renewed violence highlights growing security concerns in parts of Kwara State, as residents continue to call for urgent government intervention to curb the attacks and restore safety.
