A faction of the African Democratic Congress led by Dumebi Kachikwu is set to hold its national convention in Abuja today, Sunday, May 24, 2026, as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The planned convention was announced in a statement issued by the Acting National Working Committee Chairman of the faction, Kingsley Temitope Ogah.
According to the statement, the gathering is expected to attract party leaders, delegates, state executives, youth and women representatives, alongside political stakeholders from across the country.
Ogah explained that the convention would focus on strengthening the party’s internal democratic structures and shaping its strategy for the 2027 electoral process.
He added that members of the National Working Committee are expected to emerge during the meeting, while delegates will also deliberate on critical issues concerning the party’s future direction.
“The convention is part of the party’s strategic preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the statement said.
The faction also noted that discussions at the event would centre on national development, political inclusion, grassroots mobilisation and the need to build a stronger democratic alternative capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
The convention is scheduled to take place at A-Class Garden in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja and is expected to begin at 3 p.m.
