A Nigerian pilgrim participating in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage has reportedly died in Muzdalifah shortly after arriving from Arafat during one of the key rites of the pilgrimage.
The deceased, said to be a male pilgrim from Bauchi State, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday while pilgrims were moving overnight from Arafat to Muzdalifah.
According to reports, Saudi security personnel and emergency medical officials were seen evacuating the body from the area shortly after the incident.
Witnesses said the pilgrim’s body was wheeled away by Saudi police officers alongside members of an emergency medical team, while two officials believed to be attached to the Bauchi State pilgrims contingent accompanied the evacuation.
Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identity of the deceased, while the exact cause of death remains unclear.
The incident occurred during one of the most physically demanding phases of the Hajj exercise, which involves large-scale movement of pilgrims between holy sites under intense weather conditions and overcrowded environments.
Every year, millions of Muslim pilgrims from around the world converge in Saudi Arabia to perform the annual Hajj pilgrimage, with health emergencies and exhaustion often posing challenges during the rites.
