The Office of former President Goodluck Jonathan has cautioned members of the public against engaging with a fraudulent Instagram account falsely claiming to represent him.
In a statement released on Friday, Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, clarified that the former Nigerian leader does not own, operate, or manage any personal Instagram account.
According to Eze, the account using the handle @goodluck_ebelejonathan has been repeatedly misleading users by alternately presenting itself as a fan page and impersonating the former president.
He disclosed that the account has undergone multiple identity changes, noting that its username has been altered at least 13 times in what appears to be an effort to evade detection.
“The public should be aware that this account sometimes claims to be a fan page and at other times impersonates the former president,” Eze said.
He further expressed hope that Meta, the parent company of Instagram, would take appropriate action against the account, which he described as deceptive and intended to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.
The statement urged citizens to disregard any information, messages, or activities associated with the account, emphasizing that Jonathan has no official presence on Instagram.
