The Delta State Government has refuted widespread social media reports claiming that former Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan, has died, describing the information as false and misleading.
The clarification was issued on Wednesday by Ossai Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following growing concerns and inquiries from members of the public over the alleged report.
In a statement shared on his X account under the title, “Former Governor Uduaghan Is Alive – Death Rumour False,” Ossai revealed that he personally contacted the former governor’s family to verify the claim.
According to him, he spoke directly with Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that her father is alive and in good health.
“I have just seen reports circulating online claiming that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead. Some people have been reaching out to me asking if the news is true,” Ossai stated.
He added, “I immediately contacted his family for confirmation. I spoke directly with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that the report is false. Dr. Uduaghan is alive.”
The governor’s aide condemned the spread of unverified information, expressing concern over the emotional impact such rumours can have on families and supporters.
He described the circulation of false reports about a person’s death as irresponsible and insensitive, noting that it causes unnecessary distress to relatives, friends, and admirers.
“Spreading fake news about someone’s death is cruel and reckless. It creates needless anxiety and pain for family members and the many people who hold the individual in high regard,” he said.
Ossai urged the public to disregard the rumour and exercise caution before sharing information obtained from unofficial sources.
He reiterated that the former governor remains alive and well, calling on social media users to verify claims before disseminating them.
“Dr. Uduaghan is fine and not dead. I urge everyone to ignore the false report and avoid spreading unverified information,” he added.
