The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 101-year-old woman, identified as Esther Ogunmabo, for allegedly selling illicit cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State.
Ogunmabo, a great-grandmother, was reportedly arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, after NDLEA operatives found 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in small retail sachets in her possession.
According to the agency, the centenarian admitted that she sold the substance to residents in the community.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, describing it as part of a series of anti-drug operations carried out across the country.
Babafemi said Ogunmabo told investigators that she became involved in the illicit drug trade after a fire destroyed her provisions shop, leaving her without a source of income.
The suspect reportedly claimed that one of her daughters, who resides in Lagos, supplied her with cannabis every four days, which she repackaged and sold in smaller quantities to customers.
Following her arrest, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that the 101-year-old suspect be granted bail and referred for counselling, taking into consideration her advanced age.
The agency, however, said it also arrested the suspect’s daughter over her alleged involvement in the cannabis supply operation.
