Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna lawmaker, expressed his dismay at
those connecting the confession of
Anambra student Mmesoma Ejikeme, who
admitted to forging her University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
result, to the aftermath of the 2023 election.
According to Naija News, a committee of inquiry established
by the Anambra State Government to investigate the JAMB result controversy
found Mmesoma guilty of forging her result without assistance.
Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Sani remarked that Mmesoma
committed this crime at a time when people were searching for reasons to fuel
verbal conflicts.
In response to the ethnic undertones surrounding the issue,
the former senator stated that if the JAMB fraud had taken place in the
northern region, it would not have garnered as much attention as it did. Sani
also drew attention to a woman from Bauchi who allegedly stabbed her husband,
noting that the incident received little interest because it did not involve
individuals from the eastern or western parts of the country.
Sani tweeted, “The girl forged her UTME result. The debates
for and against her are more about the fallout of the 2023 election than just
forgery. For many of those discussing, their tongues address the forgery, but
their hearts are entangled in politics. The girl committed an offense at a time
when people are seeking reasons to sustain the flames of verbal warfare. The
girl flew a helicopter between the borders of Ukraine and Russia.”
“If the girl were from Plateau or Niger, the issue would
not have been as heated. A woman from Bauchi allegedly stabbed her husband to
death, and no one appears interested. However, if the woman hailed from the
west and the husband from the east, or vice versa, the internet would have
erupted in flames by now. Many Nigerians are now wearing ethno-religious and
political sunglasses; everything is perceived through those lenses. It seems we
will continue living like this for a very long time.”
