In a trial at Chester Crown Court, shocking allegations have
emerged against Manchester City
footballer Benjamin Mendy. The court heard that
Mendy is accused of raping a young woman and attempting to rape another woman in
separate incidents.
The first alleged incident took place in October 2020 at
Mendy’s residence in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire. The prosecution claimed that
Mendy attacked a 24-year-old woman during this time. According to the testimony
presented, Mendy callously dismissed the assault, saying, “It’s fine, I’ve
had sex with 10,000 women.”
The second accusation involved an incident that occurred two
years prior. A 29-year-old woman accused Mendy of attempting to rape her at his
home. These two disturbing allegations form the basis of the charges against
Mendy, who vehemently denies both accusations.
Judge Stephen Everett, the Recorder of Chester, presided over
the trial and addressed the jury, comprised of six women and six men. He
informed them that Mendy had previously faced trial for sexual offences raised
by other women. However, the jury in that trial had found him not guilty on
those charges, and the case concluded in January of the current year.
Nevertheless, Judge Everett emphasized that the previous
trial did not reach a verdict on the charges of rape and attempted rape,
leading to the retrial of these specific allegations against Mendy. The jury is
now tasked with considering the evidence and reaching a verdict in this renewed
trial. The gravity of the accusations and the potential consequences weigh
heavily on both the alleged victims and the footballer on trial.
